I was thinking long and hard about what type of quote I wanted to talk about with my first post. I think Craig Sager’s quote sums up perfectly how we all should be living.

To give some context, Craig Sager worked as a sports sideline reporter, most famously being a sideline reporter for NBA games on TNT. Sager was famously known for his colorful bright suits that he wore during interviews. Sager was often regarded as one of the best in the business and is beloved by the sports community for his cheerfulness and positivity. However, in 2014 Sager was diagnosed with Leukemia, and after a bone marrow transplant the cancer had gone into remission. However, in 2015 the Leukemia had returned and after a long, tough battle Sager passed away in 2016. Before his passing, Sager delivered an inspirational speech at the 2016 ESPYS, about his battle and how his life perspective has changed. The above quote is from that speech.

Craig Sager’s full speech.

Although Sager’s speech came when he was struggling through a life threatening illness, I think we can apply his wise words to any everyday person. We shouldn’t be focused on how many more hours we have left in our workday, or how much time I have left until I’m ‘old’. Instead we should be focused on living in the moment. Sager would go onto say later in his speech, “each and every day is a canvas waiting to be painted”. Every new day is an opportunity to make new memories. Sager advocates for not focusing on how much time we have left, but instead to fully focus on enjoying it. We shouldn’t have to wait for a tragic event to learn this lesson.
