Gary Vaynerchuk is currently the CEO and founder of VaynerMedia, a social media company that provides services to other companies to help them market and produce content. Vaynerchuk’s family immigrated from Belarus and started a wine business called Wine Library. After Vaynerchuk graduated from college, he started working alongside his father and started a daily video series called Wine Library TV, where he would review wine. This video series and a bunch of e-commerce strategies Vaynerchuk grew the business from 3 million to 60 million. Shortly, thereafter Vaynerchuk, alongside his brother launched Vaynermedia. Vaynerchuk also is a frequent vlogger through Youtube, LinkedIn, Instagram, and other social media platforms. He often gives talks at various events offering his advice.

Vaynerchuk said this quote during one of his impassioned talks. He often stresses the importance of kindness and positivity, and how it is pivotal to happy life. I tend to agree with him. It is very easy to put someone down and be pessimistic, but being able to be positive and optimistic when times are rough is truly the hard part. Vaynerchuk speaks about this quote from the perspective of someone starting their own social media project. He says that one person saying your content is trash, should never stop you from working. He goes on to say that if someone saying something negative is often a reflection of their own struggles, and not necessarily an indicator of your success, so it should never bring you down.
For me this quote means something a little different. Personally, I think this is more of an internal battle. I sometimes struggle with self-doubt, which leads to internal negativity. When I am in this funk, it is often hard for me to be productive, which in turn impacts my happiness. The trick is to overcome this self-doubt is to see the bigger picture and try to remain positive. As the old saying goes, “if you think you will fail then you most likely will.” I’m a big believer that if you think positively and believe in yourself then good things will happen with patience. Even though it might end up being a long game, I think that kindness and positivity will almost always win out.
